The Surf City Fishery has been family owned and operated since 1949, back when the wooden fishing boats, known as pound boats, would land the fresh caught fish on the beach right behind the premises. Then the fresh caught fish would ultimately by shipped to markets in New York as well as sold locally here at the fish market on Long Beach Island. Pound fishing ended in the mid 1950’s.
Now in its second generation, we are still serving Long Beach Island the freshest in local seafood and what is not available from the Jersey shore we bring in fresh from other locations. We have one of the biggest displays of seafood daily, carrying local Jersey clams, live hard shell Canadian lobsters and fresh day boat sea scallops from Barnegat Light, just to name a few. Many of our fish are still cut on the premises to assure freshness.
Recently we’ve expanded into takeout seafood to go, offering sandwiches and platters fresh from our show case, including our delicious homemade crab cakes and coleslaw. We also carry a variety of soups and salads in addition to various other prepared items.
